It was a working New Year's Eve for Enrique Iglesias. The Latin crooner was busy entertaining the sons of Col. Moammar Khadafy. The Libyan dictator's boys, Saadi and Mutassim, pulled out all the stops when it came to ringing in 2006 on St. Bart's, where they took over the Nikki Beach club. A rep for Iglesias would confirm only that he performed "at a private function," but we hear the Khadafy lads compensated him handsomely.

Eminem once rapped that his estranged mother, Debbie Nelson, was "full of crazy rage" and "smokes more dope than I do," and famously called her "my f-ing bitch mom" after she slapped him with a $10 million defamation suit in 1999. But the upcoming Star magazine reports a thaw in the relationship. The rap star, born Marshall Mathers, has been paying for the 50-year-old Nelson's health insurance and covering the costs of her treatments for lymphoma. "I thank Marshall for helping me stay alive," Debbie tells the mag. "I want to be around to see my granddaughter, Hailie" - his 10-year-old daughter with ex-wife Kim Mathers, whom he plans to remarry - "grow up. That's what keeps me going." As for her son, Debbie adds: "Now that he's getting his life back on track with Kim, I'm hopeful that someday we'll be able to reconcile and move forward, to get beyond all of the hurt and bitterness."

WE HEAR . . . THAT Siberia bar boss Tracy Westmoreland just filmed bit parts in Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe," starring Bono and Joe Cocker, and the upcoming Harvey Keitel indie, "A Crime" . . .THAT Dennis Rodman, Macauley Culkin and Joan Rivers are joining Anna Nicole Smith and Boy George in England's "Celebrity Big Brother" that one day will hopefully be shown in the U.S.

SIGHTINGS . . .COUNTING Crows frontman Adam Duritz shelling out $600 for himself and a friend to get into event-planning company Joonbug's New Year's Eve party at Marquee . . . CHRISTINA Applegate ringing in the New Year with beau Lee Grivas at Bungalow 8 with shots of Gran Centanario tequila while Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Emmy Rossum watched.

KATE Moss has a new man for the New Year. The supermodel, still reeling from revelations of her cocaine use and her doomed dalliance with druggie rocker Pete Doherty, was spotted in Aspen making out with singer/songwriter James Burke. Though Moss, 31, claims she and Burke, 20, are "just friends," sources tell British Vogue that Burke has already met Moss' mother and brother. She has Richard Branson's son, Sam, to thank for the introduction.

Is the bloom already off the rose for "The OC" hottie Mischa Barton and her grungy boyfriend Cisco Adler? Young Hollywood's most-photographed new lovebirds got into a screaming spat at Miami's Victor Hotel after Adler's rock band, Whitestarr, performed there on New Year's Eve. Our source says Adler flipped out when his swan-like sweetie wanted to invite several South Beach party promoters out with them after the show. "Cisco was very angry that Mischa wanted to hang out with some of her other friends, and not exclusively with him," an earwitness e-mailed us. "There was a lot of slamming doors and stomping around and dropping of F-bombs at their $5,000-a-night pool bungalow at the hotel."

DON'T ask Jennifer Lopez to be in the same room as French video director Jean Baptiste Mondino. Our informants say Lopez hired Mondino, who has previously worked with Madonna, to shoot a TV commercial for her Live fragrance several months ago. "They butted heads from day one, and then they refused to speak to one another," tattles our source. Rumor has it Lopez finally lost it when she overheard a nasty comment Mondino made about her - and told him to get out. "J.Lo took over the shoot and directed the job herself with a friend," the source added. A rep for Lopez didn't return calls.

DAVID Cassidy's pop and TV careers have long been dead and buried. But as a union leader, the former teen idol has become a veritable Samuel L. Gompers. Just look at what he's managed to do to that union holdout, the Supper Club, the West 47th Street nightclub in the Edison Hotel. Yesterday, Actors Equity filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against the theater, claiming it discriminated and "used coercive tactics" against Equity actors who were performing in "The Rat Pack Is Back!" — a show directed and produced by Cassidy that never even opened at the theater.

© Pimp C, one half of the influential Houston rap duo UGK, has been released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Terrell Unit, where he'd been serving an eight-year prison term since 2002 on an aggravated assault charge. According to The Associated Press, Pimp C (real name Chad Butler) served half the time, and became a free man on Friday. C's partner in UGK, Bun B, told the wire service he's anxious to hit the studio with his comrade. "The album is probably going to be one of the most anticipated projects in rap," he said of the next UGK LP.

© Former Pantera/ Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul performed with his band Gasoline in Arlington, Texas, on New Year's Eve, and was joined onstage by former Pantera bassist Rex Brown. The band, with Brown, performed two Pantera cuts: "Walk" and "Cowboys From Hell." The gig marked the first time the two former bandmates had shared the same stage in five years.

© White Stripes drummer Meg White will be the face of an upcoming ad campaign for fashion designer Marc Jacobs. The ads will be shot by famed photographer Juergen Teller. It's not the first time Jacobs has dipped into the musical well to find models: Past campaigns have featured artists like Sonic Youth and Stephen Malkmus.

© Kevin Federline clearly isn't going to be stopped by the universal disdain heaped on his first leaked song, "Ya'll Ain't Ready." Britney Spears' husband has begun offering his first official single, the rump-shaker "PopoZao," for download on music.yahoo.com. The song, built on a whining keyboard and spare drum-machine beats, has K-Fed rapping the song's title repeatedly, followed by the verse "In Portuguese it means bring your ass/ On the floor and move real fast/ I want to see your kitty and a little bit of t---y/ Wanna know where I go when I'm in your city/ Girl, don't you worry about all the dough." Clearly those trips to the strip clubs were not in vain.

© Madonna's not the only one saying "Sorry" — now the Pet Shop Boys are joining in on Madge's second single from Confessions on a Dance Floor. Neil Tennant added some vocals to the track when the Pet Shop Boys had their way with it in December, remixing it for a maxi single due in February. The remix was premiered last week at Beige in Los Angeles.

© Sony BMG has tentatively settled more than a dozen consumer class-action suits brought against the company over its use of copy-protection software on its CDs. The company is awaiting the approval of the settlement of the 15 suits, which is expected on Friday. "Sony BMG is pleased to have reached this agreement with the class-action plaintiffs and we look forward to the court approval process," a spokesperson said in a statement. As part of the settlement, the company has offered to add an incentive of $7.50 cash and a free album download to consumers affected by the XCP software, or three free downloads in place of the cash. Sony BMG has also pledged to stop manufacturing CDs with the XCP and MediaMax software and agreed to clearly label any anti-piracy measures it uses in the future. The settlement does not cover a suit by the Texas attorney general alleging violations of that state's anti-spyware law.

© Roth: Van Halen Reunion 'Inevitable'
Reuniting the original Van Halen lineup is just a matter of time, according to David Lee Roth, who began his career as a morning drive radio host in earnest this morning (Jan. 3). "I talked to the drummer [Alex Van Halen] about a week ago," Roth says. "And I think, eventually, the inevitable will happen."

© Murder Charges Against Gucci Mane Dropped
Prosecutors dropped murder charges against rapper Gucci Mane (real name: Radric Davis) on Friday, saying they did not have enough evidence to try him in the slaying of another rapper. Mane had been accused in the May 10 shooting of Henry Lee Clark III, a rapper from Macon, Ga. He said he shot Clark in self-defense when Clark and four other men attacked him.

© Guitarist, Family Murdered On New Year's Day
Bryan Harvey, former guitarist with the early 1990s duo House Of Freaks, was found murdered along with his family over the weekend in Richmond, Va., according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Harvey, his wife Kathryn and their two daughters, aged 9 and 4, were discovered Sunday (Jan. 1) when firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at their home.

© Tests To Determine If Skull Is Mozart's
Have scientists found Mozart's skull? Researchers say they'll reveal the results of DNA tests in a documentary airing Sunday (Jan. 8) on Austrian television as part of a year of celebratory events marking the composer's 250th birthday. The tests were done last year by experts at the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Innsbruck, and the results will be made public in "Mozart: The Search for Evidence," to be screened by state broadcaster ORF.

© Brides Of Destruction, a group that featured Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx and L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns, will be dormant in 2006. With Crue enjoying a successful reunion over the past year, Sixx has been largely uninvolved with the Brides. For his part, Guns has decided to join another hard rock group with ties to the 1980s: Quiet Riot. "We are going to record a record and support it by touring the world," Guns says of his plans with Quiet Riot in a note posted on the Brides Of Destruction message board.

© The Townes Van Zandt documentary "Be Here To Love Me" will be released March 14 on DVD via Palm Pictures. Directed by Margaret Brown, the film has been playing in limited North American theatrical release since early December. The film includes interviews with the late singer/songwriter's family, as well as such artists as Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle and Guy Clark, combined with footage of the artist onstage and at home.

© Bluegrass cover band Hayseed Dixie is readying its fourth album, "Hot Piece of Grass," for a Jan. 24 release via Cooking Vinyl. Unlike its acclaimed full album tributes to Kiss and AC/DC, the new set is more like 2002's "A Hillbilly Tribute to Mountain Love" with a mix of banjo-driven covers of rock tracks and original songs.
