The heirs of the country music star Hank Williams have won the legal right to acetate recordings of scores of his radio performances in the early 1950's, Reuters reported yesterday. The Middle Division of the Tennessee Court of Appeals ruled on Jan. 20 that Hank Williams Jr., and his half-sister Jett are the sole owners. The yearlong court battle pitted the heirs against Legacy Entertainment Group and Polygram Records. Legacy bought the recordings from a former member of the Williams band, the Drifting Cowboys, who got them from a private collector, who took them from the trash.

Barbers' rap makes the cut on MTV's 'Shop'
There's a lot of promise in MTV's new reality show "The Shop." It's just not delivered in the first episode. "The Shop" is set in Mr. Rooney's Barbershop in Queens, and revolves around a group of barbers and their customers. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/387650p-328957c.html
It's been 13 years since that pantyless interrogation scene in "Basic Instinct" had men around the world freeze-framing her crisscrossed legs. But 47-year-old Sharon Stone is still a ticking sex bomb. For weeks now, Sony execs have been going back and forth with the ratings mullahs over Stone's various postures in "Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction." We're not sure what they thought of the early scene in which a man is pleasuring Sharon while she's speeding along a cliffside road. (The drive doesn't end well for the guy checking under her hood.) But the MPAA did get hung up on some scorching orgy scenes.

The air around megastar Angelina Jolie has become so rarefied that a jar of air near her - "collected" by a fan during a "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" red-carpet moment - recently sold for $529.99 on eBay. If ever there was a sign that Jolie has entered her own stratosphere, this is it. The stunning actress - who has morphed from wild child to home wrecker to diva diplomat - has ascended to supersize global phenomenon. "In a world where people like Paris Hilton can get famous, someone like Angelina Jolie is just so much more profoundly interesting," says Larry Hackett, managing editor of People magazine, which has put Jolie on the cover six times in the last 12 months. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/387860p-329048c.html
'Moonstruck' lovers: $5M will buy the house
Location, location - the Brooklyn Heights house that was home to Loretta Castorini, Cher's character in 'Moonstruck,' is for sale. The Brooklyn brownstone immortalized in the Oscar-winning movie "Moonstruck" is up for sale - but the merely romantic need not apply. The elegant four-story home in Brooklyn Heights is being offered for a cool $5 million. Prospective buyers are already lining up to see the house at Cranberry and Willow Sts., which Cher's Loretta Castorini called home. Edward and Francesca Rullman, owners since 1959, decided it was time to sell the 177-year-old home, said Corcoran broker Elliott Lokitz, who declined to say why. "It really is kind of the antithesis of movie glitz," said Lokitz of the quiet Cranberry St. block where Cher famously kicked a can with the Manhattan skyline in the background.
Crass is kicked
Goodbye, crotch-biting dogs, hello, wacky monkeys. Crass is out and crowd-pleasing is in, as Madison Avenue gears up for its biggest event of the year — the Super Bowl. Stand by for cute animals, an MGM-style production number, and celebrities like Jessica Simpson going for big laughs as advertisers look to score with the 90 million viewers set to tune in. But don't look for bodacious babes or erectile dysfunction ads. Raunchy hit the road last year following Janet Jackson's 2004 Nipplegate and it's not coming back. HERE we go again — another day on "American Idol," another potential bump in the road. Penala, 27, apparently had a record deal with his group, 6th Day, when he auditioned for "Idol" last August in San Francisco, according to realitytvmagazine.com.

GILES 'SLAYS' ELTON JOHN
ANTHONY Stewart Head, the British actor who starred as The Watcher in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," will play the Elton John character in a new comedy based on the singer's life. The show, called "Him & Us," revolves around an over-the-hill, gay rock star and his relationship with his longtime manager and the rest of his eccentric entourage. It is being considered for a fall start on ABC. Head created the role of librarian Rupert Giles on "Buffy," a secret, sort-of father figure who oversaw Buffy's efforts to fight the black forces threatening mankind. Older viewers might remember him as the star of a series of romantic, '80s coffee commericals made like a mini-soap opera. John will produce the show — though he insists it's not that autobiographical. "It's not about me, but about everybody we've encountered over the past 30 years," he said. "It's an upmarket 'Spinal Tap.' I think it will be one of the funniest things on TV in a while."
THE once-vibrant East Village rock scene faces another demoralizing loss. The Continental, the punk rock dive on St. Marks Place that has showcased the likes of Iggy Pop, Guns N' Roses, the Ramones and Patti Smith over the years, will no longer offer live music. Continental owner Trigger tells PAGE SIX that he plans to close the club in late spring, then re-open it as a "neighborhood bar with a great jukebox, a pool table and cheap drinks. My rents and overhead go up every year. It's become un-doable to have a punk rock club in this neighborhood these days - the crowd isn't there to support it." Trigger said his friend Jesse Malin, who owns Niagara bar on Avenue B, will re-unite his band D Generation to play a send-off show at Continental. "It's breaking my heart to do this," Trigger said. "I'm a musician, too. I held on as long as I could. Once we re-open and the place is full of bridge-and-tunnelers and college kids, sure, I'm gonna have an easier time paying the rent - but it's going to be work, as opposed to a passion." Meanwhile, Bowery bastion CBGB - which launched the Ramones, Blondie and the Talking Heads - is expected to leave by October.

Ashanti is suing the Georgia-based company T.E.A.M. Entertainment, producer Genard Parker, and several international record labels in Germany, Japan, Australia and England for putting out demos she recorded when she was only 16, without her consent. The Murder Inc. princess claims she never authorized the demos to be released after T.E.A.M. failed to snag her a record deal, yet they appeared as part of the compilation disc Can't Stop in 2005, which also used her name and image on the cover to push sales of the album.
Courtney Love failed to get a civil case against her for assault dismissed on Wednesday, though her lawyers were successful in arguing to a Santa Monica, California, judge that the statute of limitations had passed for one of the causes of action. Love's being sued for attacking Los Angeles musician Kristin King in April 2004, for which she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and paid $2,700 to the victim. King says that's not enough and wants full restitution. King's attorney, Gloria Allred, said that while a court date for the next hearing has yet to be set, the case is proceeding.
