Blame it on love and the paparazzi. That's Britney Spears' explanation for why she was driving with her infant son on her lap rather than in his car seat. An L.A. County sheriff's deputy visited the home of Britney Spears yesterday to question the pop star about driving with her baby on her lap. The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) notified police that Spears may have failed to use proper child restraint. "We did go out as a courtesy for DCFS," Sheriff's Department spokesman Ban Nguyen told us. "They asked us to go out there and get some information."

Britney couldn't have been too traumatized by her latest brush with those long-lensed demons. A few hours later, she and Kevin Federline braved the red carpet at Avalon to hear Kanye West. (Brit's troublesome hubby made a point of stroking her leg during the show). http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/389480p-330337c.html
Busta Rhymes' infamous thug-life weekend started early, according to a photographer who says the rapper and his four bodyguards attacked him last Friday. You know about the gunman who killed a security guard working Busta's video shoot Sunday night in Brooklyn. Though detectives believe the rapper was trying to make peace in that incident, lensman Justin Baggoo said Rhymes couldn't have been more belligerent when Baggoo tried to take his picture as he left a midtown restaurant. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/389480p-330337c.html
Lindsay Lohan is skewing older. In Touch claims the 19-year-old has been "quietly seeing" 31-year-old singer Ryan Adams. The mag also contends she "hooked up with" 38-year-old Benicio Del Toro last Sunday. He went out to help his sometime girlfriend Sara Foster celebrate her birthday, "but he dumped her to party with Lindsay," says the mag. After "spending hours canoodling, the couple headed to the Mercer Hotel." Lohan's rep tells us, "She's not dating either of these wonderful men."… Colin Farrell celebrated the start of "Pride and Glory" with co-stars Edward Norton and Noah Emmerich at Barolo. A rep for the rehabbed actor says that was Diet Pepsi in his glass. Even though a fan asked if he could take a photo of the group, an angry Farrell insisted on removing the film from the guy's camera. He also later chased away a guy chatting up one of his female tablemates. … Kimora Lee Simmons dirty-danced with Knicks guard Stephon Marbury at Butter on Monday. "She was standing behind him grinding, holding onto his jeans," squealed a spy, adding that Kimora's hubby, Russell Simmons, was nowhere in sight. "Kimora Lee had a great time with her friends to celebrate her upcoming book 'Fabulosity,'" explained her rep. "Your source needs to read page 229, law 14 — Defy the Haters!" … George Clooney can't resist making some fast money on foreign ads. Donald Trump Jr.'s model bride, Vanessa, recently wore her best bikini to audition for a European martini ad that's due to feature Clooney. While she waits for her callback, the gorgeous Mrs. Trump will be among those modeling designer Anand Jon's AJ Jeans at Fizz tonight.
Is indie-movie denizen Vincent Gallo so desperate for attention — even if it's the bad kind?
Apparently, the answer is yes. The 43-year-old Gallo — or someone claiming to be the "Brown Bunny" writer-director-star who was pleasured onscreen by Chloe Sevigny — was selling himself on eBay yesterday. "For the modest fee of $50,000 plus expenses, I can fulfill the wish, dream, or fantasy of any naturally born female," reads the indecent proposal, under a glassy-eyed photo of Gallo, an avowed Republican, with one hand resting on his crotch.

Did we really need to know about Jon Bon Jovi's fear of fizzling? When Elle magazine asks the 43-year-old father of four which frightens him more — the prospect of losing his ability to perform on stage or perform in bed — he answers: "Impotence. I could always write songs, act, get into politics or stay at home with the kids, but I've got to have some fun." Apparently, Katie Couric might be helpful. "Her cheerleader thing definitely works for me." Too much infotainment!

PARIS Hilton, crime fighter? A Nancy Drew in a thong, Hilton proved crucial in the guilty plea yesterday by the man who was charged with burglarizing "Girls Gone Wild!" creator Joe Francis' home in 2004, and then hog-tying the video millionaire and videotaping him in sexually explicit positions. L.A. cops busted Darnell Riley after Francis told them that Hilton had overheard in December 2004 that Riley and another man were responsible for the home-invasion attack at Francis's Bel Air mansion. Riley also left his fingerprints on duct tape used to bind Francis. And raw "Girls Gone Wild" footage - stolen from Francis' home - was found in his possession. Riley copped to one count of robbery and one count of attempted extortion in L.A. yesterday. He was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in state prison. http://www.nypost.com/gossip/pagesix/pagesix.htm
